Co-sponsored by Ministry of Commerce of The People’s Republic of China, China General Chamber of Commerce and Sichuan Provincial People’s Government and co-organized by Sichuan Provincial Department of Commerce and Sichuan Foreign Trade Service Center, China (Sichuan) Sourcing Fair inaugurated at the Century City New International Convention Center in Chengdu on 27 October 2008.

        The Fair attracted a cluster of buyers and suppliers from home and abroad. UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) organized a group of 57 enterprises to participate; commerce governing bodies from 13 Chinese provinces and municipalities brought in a number of well-known retailers such as Dashang Group, Suguo Supermarket, Zhongkelong Supermarket and etc as scheduled; 30 enterprises in white spirits manufacturing from quake-stricken areas as Mianzhu and Dayi of Sichuan came in as a group to showcase the variety of Sichuan spirits and look for partnerships. One on one match-making business meetings were done for more than 1,000 suppliers and over 500 buyers from 21 countries and regions, 26 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions from China and 21 secondary cities and prefectures from Sichuan. In the afternoon of 27 October, group signing ceremony of 11 projects was completed with RMB 3.438 billion in business turnover, leading by Sichuan Chonghong Group. The total turnover at the Fair reached RMB 48.3 billion from various sectors, where furniture, pork, textile and garment, machinery and electronics, food & beverage, fine chemicals and metals & minerals performed.
